Zimmerli

Swiss refined underwear manufacturer Zimmerli's history began in 1871, when dyer Johann Jakob Zimmerli went bankrupt. Looking for a new activity, he discovered in a newspaper Isaac William Lamb's 1867 invention of the manual one-needle knitting machine exposed at the Paris World Fair. He then asked his wife Ida Pauline to go to Basel in order to be trained on the machine by the local Lamb sales representative. She learned to knit extremely delicate women's stockings and men's socks. Thanks to her own sales talents, Ida Pauline was soon selling her creations outside her own region. The firm hired their first employees in 1874. Driven by entrepreneurial spirit, Ida Pauline invented a new knitting machine with two needles, which she used to create innovative rib knit fabrics and underwear. From 1878 on, Zimmerli's underwear is available in the Parisian department store Le Bon Marché, and from 1880 onwards, the brand got its first orders from the USA. From the beginning on, Zimmerli stands for refined underwear made in Switzerland from high quality natural fibres. The label is proud to propose unique comfortable tank tops, boxer shorts, briefs and pyjamas. The luxurious pieces for men and women are cut from cotton jersey, cotton poplin, silk and satin.
