about the creator
Design- and architecture-loving Robert Clergerie discovered the world of shoes in 1970, and quickly felt in love with the trade during his job training in France. To be exact, it was in Romans-sur-Isère, where he bought a historical manufacture in 1978 with archives dating back to 1895. Thanks to this heritage, he quickly mastered all steps of luxury footwear fabrication. He launched his brand Clergerie in 1981, and opened his first store in Paris. The women’s shoes are still created and for the most part produced in France, and entice with their simplicity and innovative design, artisanal know-how and the noble and innovative materials. The collections skilfully mix masculine and feminine influences, and are crafted from natural quality materials such as leather and raffia fibres. All creations are thought for independent and contemporary women, who always stay elegant. In 2005, Clergerie received the price “Best Designer of the Year” from the American Fashion Footwear Association for its distinctive, edgy designs. Since 2017, it is art director David Tourniaire-Beauciel who, with a background of 25 years of experience in luxury shoe creation, take over the design department. He reinterprets classic models in order to offer shoes that are sure to turn heads.
